Just as Good

#JUSTASGOOD

Often times when I hear someone say their gun, gear, fill in the blank, is “just as good,” well… “You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.” – Inigo Montoya

That is not to say there isn’t comparable gear and guns out there, but it often appears as the rally cry of rationalization. A sub $400 300 Blackout pistol off of Armslist is not just as good as Q’s Honey Badger. A Condor softshell is not on the same level by any stretch of imagination as the Wild Things Active Flex Jacket. Mechanically, those two guns work on the same principles and yes, you can wear either jacket, but they are not the same.

Here is the catch though, we can make the “just as good” statement true with the addition of two words. “This (fill in the blank) is just as good for me.” There are a lot of products out there that are just as good for me. By way of example, if the possibility of a gun going down means I just have to stop and fix it or maybe cut short that trip to the range, that isn’t a big deal. Because I’m out having fun at the range. If I was overseas with a product of questionable quality, the possibility of said gun going down has serious consequences by comparison.

So is something “Just as good,” or is it “Just as good for me”?

  1. Hi, I would like to know what optical you have on your Honey Badger pistol in this video. I just received a new HB by Q and am looking for something like what was on the one you were holding in the video “Just as Good” also did the mount have enough height to co-witness iron sights not on weapon in video. I am interested in more close quarters scenarios and have a older Trijicon RMO Red dot sight that I was going to take off my Ruger SR-556 Takedown model in 5.56 NATO and put on my HB pistol. I am worried about the weight and loss of battery power which would render my RMO useless. And finally if you know of a good prism sight for my Ruger I am looking for close quarters and mid range applications, illuminated but with a prism reticle that will still show even if it loses it’s battery. I have a Vortex Spitfire 3x prism scope on order but don’t know if it is going to come through, any thoughts on all this would be appreciated.I enjoy your YouTube channel, you have helped me find the choice of my first Q product the Honey Badger pistol in 300 BLK.Sincerely,Doc Hawk

    1. Hi Doc, congratulations on the HB! They are so much fun. I have a SRO on a Scalarworks mount in that video. It is a great little set up. And yes, you can still co-witness if you need to with those mounts. For prism optics, I’ve been really pleased with the Primary Arms Cyclops. They have some other magnified versions, that is a 1x, that I’ve heard good things about. Depending on use, you can use the Cyclops with a 3x magnifier too. The review of the Cyclops is up on my site. Thanks for watching!

  2. Big thanks for the info. I took the Honey Badger to my local range with just the Iron Sights and was amazed at how good it performed. It’s like a well oiled sewing machine and very accurate with the heavy 300 BLK load. That 1 & 5 twist rate really stabilizes that heavy bullet with the short barrel.Should be getting my Thunder Chicken in the coming months and am excited to put it over that Cherry Bomb.Engineering at it’s finest in my opinion.Keep up the good videos your level of thinking and how you present is a very fine approach to sensible information for people to digest and come to a good informative decision on how one might decide a good solution for how they might go about choosing good quality solutions for the needs they may have in their future endeavors.
