Trijicon 1.6-16s

Trijicon ACOG 1.5x16s

At this point in time, most everyone is familiar with Trijicon and their ACOG (Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight).  But how about the 1.5x16s?  While their 3 and 4 power ACOGs tend to get a lot of love, the 1.5x16s ACOG tends to get left out.

The 1.5x16s is a ACOG with 1.5x magnification and a 16mm objective lens.  It is small, light and fast to use.  The length is only 4″ and it weighs about 5 oz.  And due to the 1.5x magnification, you can snap the gun up almost as fast as a red dot optic.

I’ve been using this little optic for a few months now and it has done pretty good for me.  I’ve ran it on my Honey Badger by Q in a Carbine Course with Firebase CSG.  I’ve also ran it on a SBR as well as a Radian Model 1.  It even spent a little time on a Gen 12 Shotgun.  The reticle (TA-44C) green circle with 2 MOA dot, was clean and easy to use.

You can find the Trijicon ACOG 1.5-16s here.

  1. Hey Ivan,
I am going to give one of these a try. My eyes have gotten much worse in the past 10 years, and I can see this being a better option than an Aimpoint, Eotech, or MRO. What are your thoughts on green versus red and the dot versus chevron for general use (i.e. both inside and out, low and high ambient lighting)? I was issues a red chevron a lifetime ago, but folks whose opinions I trust have said that in most situations green is superior.

    1. Mark, I think one of these may be the ticket for you. Having said that, it is a investment. I would look into finding someone local that maybe you can check out. Even in a store or what not.

Also, there are other companies making Prism 1x optics with etched reticles. I don’t have time with them, but am looking to do some reviews in the future.

And finally, reticle and color. I haven’t used the ACSS, but as far as “usable” goes, it offers a lot more to the shooter than the circle / dot. If you plan to take this out past 100 yards or so, it might be worth looking into. Green to Red, there is science talking about green and your eyes picking it up but… It really comes down to individual preference. While green might be easier for the eyes, red seems to create contrast with way more objects… Just my observation.

Sorry I don’t have a hard fast answer for you Mark.

  2. Hey Ivan, Thanks for the reply. I just ordered one with the red ACSS reticle. I am used to red and don’t foresee any downside. Now I need to decide on a mount. Any suggestions? Also, I just joined Patreon and started supporting you. I am really enjoying the content you are creating.

    1. Awesome, I’m looking forward to hearing how it does for you. With a little bit of education, I think that ACSS reticle will allow you to push your rifle to its potential. You can do a lot with that reticle.

As to mounts, if it is going to stay on that one rifle always, you can use Trijicon’s regular mount. Just put some thread locker on it and torque it down. If you plan to move it at all, I really like the Boboro mounts. They lock up really solid and are easy to put on and take off.

Thank you a ton for your support on Patreon as well. It means a lot, thank you Marcus.
