I tried and tried, but couldn't get it.

To Build A Fire: Part – 5 the polySTRIKER XL

When it comes to building a fire, rarely do we do it in less than optimum conditions.  We make a campfire in the summer for some smores and hang out telling stories.  In the book, To Build a Fire by Jack London, getting a fire started is a life or death ordeal.  So today I try getting a fire going when I am cold and wet with the polySTRIKER XL ferro rod by Exotac.

You can go here to pick up the Exotac polySTRIKER XL.

I will say that this guy does throw some mean sparks…
  1. Ivan, I always enjoy your content. In my opinion the lanyards that keep the ferro rod and striker together are always too short. I like to replace them with a long piece of cord. I’ve found it’s easier to pull the ferro rod away from the striker rather that pushing the striker towards the tinder, it keeps me from knocking the tinder out of place and directs the sparks where I want them. I don’t know if any of that is helpful but I wanted to share. Thanks.

    1. Both great points. I did find myself ‘constrained’ with the lanyard on the polySTRIKER XL. And to your second point, I need to try that. I haven’t tried pulling the ferro rod, but I like the idea. Because I kept knocking my stuff all over the place. 🙂 Thanks for sharing Sol!
