Gear to last decades...

Gear for the Long Haul

When have you had a zipper last over 20 years?  How about a zipper on something you have regularly mistreated (for better or worse)?  When we make purchases for outdoor equipment or tactical gear, how long do you plan on having that item for?  In this video we will talk about some points to consider when parting with your hard earned money.  To illustrate this, we will take a look at my trusty Gregory Backpack.  Make your purchase a investment…    …or shop at the dollar store.

While I don’t have any experience with the newer Gregory Packs, you can find them Here.

  1. Ivan, great observations. I have a Ben Davis long-sleeve hickory shirt that I have worn hard backpacking, trail building, etc. for over 20 years. Stitching, zipper, fabric: bombproof. Its recent downfall was getting badly stained with wood rat habitat midden while clearing a fence line, then washing it (more than once) with a ball point pen. The first time I struggled to remove the spots and got close. The second time the ink won. I figured it was time to Goodwill the garment and buy new. There’s always some one that stops me to ask if I am in the logging industry. Once, I say proudly, in my “yoot.”
