For most any kind of NV (Night Vision) use, the MAWL (Modular Advanced Weapon Laser) is the best IR (Infrared) aiming and illumination device I’ve used to date. I would argue best in a number of categories as well. For starters, while it is a Class 1 (Civilian) Laser, it does just as good as any number of Mil-Spec units. And more importantly, the diffused laser illuminator performs better than most every unit, on a number of fronts. From both the usable illumination as well as the simple and easy to use settings. Under NVGs it is amazing.
And as a bonus, the visible green laser is awesome as well. Be it for aiming, especially in compromised shooting positions or even for marking and signaling. Additionally it is slaved to the IR laser so that you can zero them both quickly and easily during the day.
I’ve shot the MAWL C1+ on a number of hosts, to include my Knights Armament SR-25 in a 3 day night vision course with AMTAC Shooting as well as on my Honey Badger SD, by Q. Lots of time on the range and in the Shoot House. Overall it is an outstanding and easy to use unit.
