Strawberry Mountain 3.0 Part 3

Strawberry Mountain 3.0 Part – 3

In Part 3 of my Strawberry Mountain Adventure I wrap up the backpacking trip. Starting off the day right with some coffee made from melted snow over my new Uberleben stove, followed by a short hike up to the summit.

On the way down, things didn’t really go as planned. Lost the trail at a few points in the snow. And eventually it stayed lost. But it wouldn’t be an adventure otherwise. I eventually made it back down the mountain, across the stream and to my vehicle. Another adventure in the books.

One of the gems of the forgotten forest…
Seems like a pretty good place to cross…
  1. Hey Ivan, I just watched Strawberry Mountain part 3. Of course, knowing “we” would be in the snow, I had turned up the furnace and grab a hot cup of coffee. I watched with trepidation as you told the story of coming back down off the mountain. About half way down I would have been screaming hysterically. You are a great story teller. Thanks for sharing!

    Richard

  2. Ivan, happy ending to your story. I especially dug the end, getting lost, consternation, trepidation, and the sweet satisfaction of finding the trailhead. Though I never planned on getting lost in the Sierra it has happened and it makes getting out, or finding the trail just that much sweeter. So, yeah, adventure!

That said, I’d like to hear about hauling that slung Honeybadger up and down the mountain. Seemed to be a liability on that first river crossing, wouldn’t have been much help with a self-arrest if the snowy terrain was any steeper, and definitely could have been a liability when you walked up to those cabins. A pistol in a chest holster might have been a more efficient choice. Its your show, but I just hate to see you slip through the branches into the river chasing after your elk-repellant.

    1. Hey Dave, thanks for watching man.

As to a pistol in a chest holster, I don’t have a chest holster or a suitable pistol. But I do have a Honey Badger… Which I can shoot way better than a pistol. Not to mention I don’t really care for any more permanent hearing loss, hence the silencer. And on top of that, I have a Bear, Wolf and Lion tag in my pocket. Way easier to fill with my Honey Badger if given the opportunity. 🙂

      1. Well, there you have it. Still, coming around the bend and coming upon a dude with his weapon at low ready would be an interesting experience. Since you filmed this in a free state there’s probably a protocol for that. 😉
