Here is Part – 4, the final chapter with this Howa Oryx 6.5 Grendel. To be honest, I was really excited to get this rifle. I had incredibly high hopes for it after hearing such great things about the cartridge. After that first outing though, my confidence in the gun wasn’t there.
Eventually the gun came around and by the end of it, it was a shooter. But that was after a good 120-140 rounds. And at this rifles price-point, and the fact it has a “Sub MOA Guarantee” tag hanging off the trigger guard when you get it, I can’t get behind it.
Not specific to Howa, but in general, I think “Barrel Break In” is a joke. It is a way of pawning off finishing the barrel on the consumer. And when you can get a Savage or Ruger out of the box that will shoot Sub MOA, I think companies need to rethink that…
All that said, if this rifle is for you, you can find the Howa Oryx Mini Action in 6.5 Grendel a few different places, or pick up the Howa Oryx Chassis at Brownell’s.
