Depending on what you’re doing with your rifle, and who is on the other side, it can be very advantageous to not announce your location while shooting at night or under low light conditions. There are a number of variables, from caliber, barrel length, muzzle device, suppressor / silencer and even the ammo. Here are some different setups people were shooting at a AMTAC Shooting Night Vision Course I attended.
