The Fix in 8.6 Creedmoor

8.6 Creedmoor & The Fix by Q

Here is the 8.6 Creedmoor… Basically the big brother of 300 Blackout. Starting with a 6.5 Creedmoor case, shortening it, then necking it up for a 338 projectile. What does this do for us?

It gives us the same type of benefits of a 300Blk. We have a round that can fit in a .308 Winchester magazine and is devastating in both supersonic and subsonic loads.

The 8.6 Creedmoor at 155gr @ 2500fps out of a 12.5″ barrel will outperform a .308 from a 18″ barrel to around 300 Yards. And with the subsonic loads at around 300+gr @ 1000 fps, they pack a looooot of punch.

I’m really excited for the 8.6 Creedmoor that Hornady will be brining to market, and for when Q starts offering The Fix chambered in it.

The 8.6 Creedmoor has been an idea 10 years in the making. And now it’s just about there…
    1. No, while similar, it isn’t the same. It has to do with largely with subsonic rounds. To quote Ethan, a engineer from Q, “main point: 300gr+ subsonic ogive is in past the case mouth of 338 Federal. 8.6 Creedmoor blends sub and super like 300 blk, but in ar10 mags for real 400m supersonic performance w/supersonic.”

  1. What the heck kinda 308 are you comparing that to, Dan Zimmerman at TTAG claims to move a 168 grain bullet 2380 FPS out of 13.5” barrel in 308. That’s right around the 8.6 numbers at the muzzle. And why such a lightweight bullet for the caliber? 338 fed seems to be between 190-200 grains. I’m just not seeing it.

    1. I’m not the guy with the answer. A lot smarter people than me developed it. You can hit up the guys over at Q on their Instagram @the_official_q

  2. I have nothing against cm….but it does seem they just copy other rounds….260 rem/ 6.5 cm, 338 fed/8.6 cm……just saying.

    1. I can’t speak to 6.5, but 8.6 absolutely brings more to the table than 338 Federal. Not to mention, Hornady actually does a good job supporting and pushing things into the mainstream.

    1. Did you read the top comments? While similar, it is a improvement upon it. And actually slated for larger market adoption.
