1st Look: BRN-180 in 7.62×39 and the DrOP

First looks don’t always go as planned, as attested to by my first look at the Brownells BRN-180 Upper Receiver in 7.62×39 and the Ridgeline DrOP

Anytime you put that cartridge into an AR-15 (AR-18) pattern rifle, it can be tricky. The first issue I ran into was not enough spring tension on the hammer. After switching to a lower receiver with a Geissele Trigger, that seemed to solve that. But then I ran into an occasional feeding issue. Which could be magazine related (another issue with that round in that type of rifle).

The Ridgeline DrOP (Drop Offset, Pouch) is an interesting piece of gear. Basically a way mounting a magazine, radio or other piece of gear in a manner that kicks it out away from your body. Making the magazine easier to retrieve.

And if you’re looking for THE Cheapest Red Dot, this is probably it.

Brownells was super and quick and responsive when I brought up the issue and I’ll be bringing you more soon. When I get the upper worked out and more time with the products, I’ll bring you a full review.
